Normal Appearance

    Properly boned, giant, muscular and strongly built. Physique barely longer than top at withers. Majestic bearing with noble expression.

 

Characteristics

    Some loose fitting skin over body and head permitted, to not be excessive.

 

Temperament

    Steady, loyal, devoted and vigilant. Barely aloof.

 

Head and Cranium

    Head pretty giant with broad quick skull, broad across cheeks. Head proportion: cranium size two thirds, to muzzle one third. Cranium flat and parallel to topline of muzzle.  Definite cease, nose should not protrude beyond vertical line of muzzle. Nose massive with properly open nostrils. Lips fleshy and thick. The higher lips type an inverted 'v' when viewed from the front. Muzzle deep and square when seen from the front. Head has unfastened pores and skin permitted but without excess.

 

Eyes

    Clear eyes, set forward, well apart, relatively rounded. Rims tight without haw. Rim pigmentation to tone with nostril colour. Free from obvious eye problems.

 

Ears

    Small for size of head, set forward, excessive and well apart. Triangular, hanging flat towards cheeks, however not reaching beyond line of throat.

 

Mouth

    Scissor chew, i.e. higher tooth closely overlapping lower teeth and set square to the jaws. Or degree bite. Teeth white and regular. Sturdy nicely developed jaws.

 

Neck

    Pretty quick, stocky, very muscular.

 

Forequarters

    Peak: sixty five-seventy five cms (25½-29½ ins); Weight: 50-70 kgs (a hundred and ten-154 lbs). Some tolerance allowed. Bitches considerably less.

 

Faults
