Things You Should Know When Drawing a Face
When learning how to draw a face, do not be frustrated if you do not achieve a perfect drawing at the first try. Practice makes perfect and you need a little experience before you can achieve a perfect drawing.
First of all you are going to need some basic tools such as pencils (2B'S preferably), paper, erasers, and perhaps a ruler to start off with. Items such as paints and ink you will not be needing when first start out, these things you can get later on when you are more comfortable with your drawing techniques.
Basic Stages you Should Learn on How to Draw a Face Drawing a face takes time if you want it to be near perfect. Of course you have to try and try before you can accomplish what portrait artists can do. But with patience and determination, you will be able to do it.
Stage 1 - start with a light drawing of a basic oval shape; it doesn't have to be perfectly symmetrical. No one has a perfectly shaped face no matter what they say in songs and poetry. Draw light lines across the face; a horizontal line will divide the face, a vertical line halfway across is where the eyes go, along this line on either side of the face will be where the ears are. There should be two more lines at the bottom part of the face; these lines are for the nose and the mouth.
During this next step you will start shading in the parts which will give depth to your picture. Figure out where the light source will be in the picture and shade the other side darker. Shading gives life to any picture and you definitely want that effect when drawing a face.
This next step will determine if your face is of the male or female gender. Drawing in the hair is this step, it will be a little intimidating at first but it will get easier as you practice. You can get really creative when choosing what kind of hair you want to draw, you could choose long, curly and wild hair or short, straight and stringy hair. Whatever you may choose, hair will give your creation a more life-like look.
Stage 4 -this is where you add the hair; so this is also the part where you decide if you are drawing a man or a woman. Do not be intimidated with hairs, you can be very creative with them; with girls you can put long curly ones or do them braided on one side. With boys, you can also do them short and little curly or a little longer straight ones.
Start with a familiar face such as your own or from you're family members and you will find that it is easier than you first thought. You might not have a Michelangelo at first and you might end up with more of a Picasso but you will get better at it the more you practice.
