The search for the right home theater can be difficult. There will be new words that you may have never heard before as well as dozens of different audio retailers that are all trying to sell you something different. In order to help make this process a little less confusing it is a good idea to learn at least a few general words that will help you understand exactly what you are looking for in a home theater system and what the sales rep is asking. In order to do this I have explained 4 basic home theater terms below to help make this whole process a little less confusing.

Treble, What is it? Treble is what brings your music to life making sure you hear every last detail. The treble is the high frequencies of your music that gives you your music the life and enables your music to sounds crisp and clear instead of dull and lifeless.

Midrage, What is it? In order to have brilliant vocals you need to make sure you have great midrange capabilities in your speakers. Midrange is simple the midrange sound frequencies where most vocals happen. If your speakers lack in the midrange the overall sound of your system sound muffled and unclear.

Bass: Now I am not talking about the car bumping down the road. Good bass is an essential part of any home theater. You don't want bass that overpowers the midrange or the treble but bass that blends with the overall system to help bring the movies or music to life. Well balanced bass can put you in the middle of the action.

Soundstage: A well put together surround sound system will recreate the atmosphere of where the music was created and give you a sense that you were in the concert hall or arena. If the speakers can recreate this soundstage you will be able to hear each instrument and their location.

I hope knowing what treble, midrange, and bass are and what to look for in each will help make your buying decision a little bit easier.
