Having a little puppy and a newborn baby both in the house can prove to be quite difficult sometimes. The newborn baby will need your assistance most of the time while the puppy might demand your attention too since they are mostly attention seekers.

There are many puppies who cannot bear the thought of being ignored. Just like human kids, they love to be the center of your attention. This is imminent once the baby is already in the house. You should train your puppy not to ask too much attention by not playing with him always. He should be ignored for several hours a day, just give him his usual toys for him to learn how to entertain himself on his own.

Once your baby is already at home with you, most of the baby's toys and other stuff will be littered around the house. You naturally wouldn't want the puppy to mess with his things by playing with it and licking it, would you? The best thing to do is to use the 'no' command and train your pup not to meddle with the child's stuff. You can also pour some mouthwash into the baby's things so that the pup won't touch the baby's stuff.

Let the puppy sniff the baby once your baby is already brought home. This will make him familiar with the scent of your little one. Remember that after a few months, your baby will learn how to tug and pull the puppy and that he might get hurt and begin retaliating. Let your puppy get used to the tugging and pulling. Each time you praise your puppy, tug and pull his ears and his coat too. Then he will get used to it as a sign of endearment from you and associate the same feeling when the baby will start doing the same thing to him.
